I hope this finds…. TL;DR but yes, commenting, and comments in general, like this one, are the literary/social equivalent of pissing into a strong wind. ack carry on, soldier…

I am writing from the currently multi-colored, agricultural side of the foothills of Western NC. Here, the cows are more numerous than the people and houses are spaced too far apart for children to trick-or-treat—but whose little towns conveniently want to increase traffic in their shops and so become the hot spot of all “parish” activity. We try to live HERE instead of the in the tempting, digital cosmos. But sometimes the words offered by neighbor (along with their homegrown produce), though wholesome and gentle (as long as douchebags aren’t treating our small residential road as a thoroughfare, which causes rabid cursing from the otherwise gentle retired ladies on our street) just do not supply the inspiration and challenge for the mind. Wishing less turkey-neck engagement and thankful as always for your intelligent offering which enriches my rural mountain life. And thank you for bearing with my parentheses.

Now I feel self conscious. I think I used AI to write an email once (I mean this sincerely), but I don't think I've ever used AI to write anything else (I do use Grammarly, but I don't think that counts as AI any more). And yet, I almost always open with "I hope this note finds you well" or "I hope you are doing well." Maybe I'll start opening with "I hope you are doing good."

>>When in reality, it’s the rituals we perform, and the state of our souls, that we’re actually perceiving as meaningless and then projecting out into the cosmos.

This is the line that hit me because I believe so strongly in the value of meaning and in the strength and ubiquity of projection in humans. You have helped me organize and see the meaning in my own life this morning. Thank you.

Recently I was laid off from a job I hated but paid well. Before it happened I had been so stressed that the thought of death felt like release. I prayed for mercy and the lord answered.

I started posting notes here as a way to fill the time, mostly stupid and silly, sometimes brief meditations based on old pics in my phone. One picture of a habanero with faux-pithy statement generated 2.6+ likes. It was complete bullshit, people loved it. I’ll never top that.

It’s all a waste of time I’ll keep doing for the time being, but my greatest joy recently was giving my dog a paper bag and chasing her around the backyard.

To quote Jerry Jeff Walker:

“Pissin' in the wind, bettin' on a losing friend

Makin' the same mistakes, we swear we'll never make again

We're pissin' in the wind, but it's blowing on all our friends

We're gonna sit and grin and tell our grandchildren”
