For a moment I balked at the idea that authenticity is rarer than genius. But in fact I think that’s right — lots of people have the potential for genius within them. But relatively few manage to get it through the eye of the needle of the creative process, and out into the world as authentic creative expression. So I agree that authenticity is rarer than (unrealized) genius.
Reminds me of a haunting quote about Goethe from Robert Richardson (Emerson biographer): “Goethe had talent, and even rarer, the ability to use it.”
